Summer Garden

Have to say summer is indeed one of my favorite seasons. This year has been quite warm and dry, but there is still lots going on in the garden. The ice storm this past spring brought a stroke of luck, as the branches broken during the storm have allowed more sunlight to flood our side yard. This year I tried container gardening, and so far, so good. Am looking forward to the tomatoes ripening and have already harvested a few peppers.

The flower beds are doing well, but require constant care, especially watering during the heat waves. I planted hollyhock seeds three years ago along our driveway, and this is the first year we have actually had flowers. They line the drive like sentries watching over us. My wife purchased a sunflower seedling in the spring at a neighborhood yard sale, and I have greatly enjoyed watching it grow. It also stands guard over the front of the house, the one bloom almost done, but others beginning to bud.

This time of year one can find blooms everywhere. I love making arrangements for the house from what I manage to collect while out walking on the trails. Always is nice to have fresh flowers on the kitchen table. I hope you are also enjoying the summer, and you find the photos below of interest.
